Whilst seeming like a quaint seaside town, those that inhabit Falmouth know that the local music scene is far from this image. Conversely there is a rapidly growing punk scene in our town that was showcased in all its fierceness on Saturday night, quite unusually...on a boat. Four of Falmouth's loudest bands set sail from the Prince of Wales pier for a nautical night of noise, drinking and seasickness amongst their equally excited friends and fans.
Just before setting off we had the chance to sit down with the opening act of the night. For those who live in Falmouth Tinnedfruit need no introduction, being one of the town's most loved bands and frequently tearing up local venues such as Jago's bar and Jacob's Ladder. However for those not familiar, Tinnedfruit are a ferocious punk/garage rock band that have not long seen the release of their second LP 'Sorry Guys', a relentless album that fans of Idles and Yak are sure to love.
Before taking their chaotic live performance to sea, Danny, Alex and Dan took the time to have a chat with us about their experience growing as a band in the local Punk scene. With their friend Theo explaining that due to the limited size of Falmouth "everything could potentially be a noise complaint", the band explain the ways the punk scene has lived on throughout the town and the people that have kept it alive. Notably they mention Jimbob Taylor (whose photographs of the gig are featured here) and documentation of Cornwall's punk scene through the photography series Kernow Punks. Have a listen to the full interview below and check out Tinnedfruit's albums on spotify, bandcamp, and vinyl!
